This version of the Philadelphia Game Manufacturing Company's Major League Base Ball game is perhaps the most sought after of all the sports board games. It's desirability is well deserved as it is one of the prettiest games you will ever see. The game is encased in a hinged wooden box that opens to reveal the playing board and accessories. But the box cover is the real highlight to this game. It pictures 16 old-time players that include some of the greats of the game. Across the top border, there are cameo pictures of Frank Baker, Ty Cobb, Nap Lajoie, Ed Walsh, Tris Speaker, Hal Chase, Walter Johnson and Bobby Wallace. There is a scratch on the Lajoie photo and wear between the Chase & Johnson photos. The bottom border pictures Christy Mathewson, Frank Chance, Honus Wagner, Red Dooin, Roger Bresnahan, Bob Bescher, Nap Rucker and Johnny Kling. The overall appearance of the box cover is excellent considering it is almost 100 years old. The game itself is beautifully constructed. The game board has a wonderful litho of a baseball field that includes fans in the stands. There is a slot for line-up cards and holes for the wooden pegs to indicate scoring and players. The other half of the opened box is a large sized spinner with outcomes for game situations. There is a little writing on one of the slots. The rest of the accessories include wooden pegs and line-up cards with the actual names of players for the Major League teams. We would have to grade the overall condition of the game as excellent and it will surely make for a wonderfull addition to any collection.Don't miss this opportunity to own this truly rare game.
