THE YANKEE PROMO

Every once in a while in life you get a second chance to make up for a blunder of your past. In a previous Blog entry, I lamented about a missed opportunity to try to obtail one of the rarest and most sought after bobbing heads in the hobby- a New York Yankees promotional doll from the early 60's. As luck would have it, we were offered another example (we know of only 1 other) shortly after the 2011 National Sports Collectors Convention and almost 10 years to the day of our missed opportunity. We received a phone call based on our Blog entry and the negotiations were fast and successful for both parties. When the box arrived, we opened it with excitement and were not dissapointed. The doll is stunning(see picture below) - standing about 14" tall. The NFL produced these large sized dolls for each of the then 14 NFL franchsises and there are less than 50 known examples. As far as we know, the only baseball promo is this Yankee- with no other team surfacing. We consider ourselves very lucky to have been given this second chance.
