LSU FOOTBALL HARTLANDS

The LSU Football Hartland statues have been a mystery for collectors for many years. In 1959, Billy Cannon was an All-American running back for the Tigers and would go on to capture the Heisman Trophy. He eventually was a first round pick in both the NFL and the newly formed AFL and went on to star for the Oilers, Raiders and Chiefs before his retirement after the 1970 season. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.

The story behind the LSU Hartlands is mostly speculative. Most Hartland experts believe that the two LSU statues were issued to honor Billy Cannon's career and were a limited edition give-away. The one thing everyone agrees on- is that they are two of the hardest to find and most sought after Hartlands in the hobby. There are literally only a handful of examples that are known to exist.

Recently, we were able to obtain both the running back and lineman statues issued for LSU. Although they will be put out for sale, we feel honored to own them- even if it is for only a short while. In our over 30 years in the hobby, this is the first time that we have actually had these statues in our hands. Hopefully the next owner will cherish them like we have.
