ROBERT GOULD STATUE VARIATION
ROBERT GOULD STATUE VARIATION
Our good friend Fred McKie has provided us with the above picture of a Robert Gould statue of Richie Ashburn. It is painted silver (original Goulds are white) and it is mounted on a plastic trophy base. This one is dated 1961, but we've seen similar presentations with earliet dates and different plaque engravings including the World Series. Although no-one knows for sure, we surmise that the Robert Gould company sold excess statues to various novelty companies who turned them into souvenir trophies. We have also seen Gould statues mounted on top of plastic pencil sharpeners. Depending on the player statue used and the event on the plaque will determine value. For the Robert Gould collector these oddball variations are fun to find.
